About

Eleanor Vassili is a Greek-American radio and podcast producer based in Brooklyn, New York.

Her childhood years were spent exploring the streets of Athens and the small island of Paros on the Aegean Sea. After moving to the United States, she and her family spent their time traveling across the country selling handmade jewelry at county fairs, and then running around film sets in Los Angeles where she and her siblings worked as background actors.

Eleanor originally pursued a career in social work at Western Washington University. In 2012 she shifted her focus to documentary film editing at The Edit Center, and in 2015 she went back to school at Hunter College for Film and Media studies.

In 2018 Eleanor entered the world of audio as a Mobile Facilitator for the non-profit public media organization, StoryCorps, recording over 350 interviews with people across the country in partnership with NPR and The Library of Congress. In 2020 she became a Producer for StoryCorps, working on radio broadcasts for NPR’s Morning Edition. During this time she also collaborated with Temple University on The Ongoing Revolution, working with experts in the field of indigenous rights, marriage equality, healthcare, immigration, and environmental law to “highlight people in recent history whose vital stories of courage and inspiration are widely under-recognized”.

In 2021, Eleanor became the Lead Producer for The StoryCorps Podcast, before taking over as Senior Producer in 2022. Now her life revolves around the process of narrative storytelling in audio, continuing to honor the overlooked voices of our time.
